Why Read the Quran Daily?

The Holy Quran is the literal word of Allah, revealed to the Prophet Muhammad ๏ทบ over 23 years through the Angel Jibreel (Gabriel). It is the primary source of guidance for over 1.8 billion Muslims worldwide and the most recited book in human history. Yet for many Muslims, the Quran sits on a high shelf โ€” honoured but rarely opened.

Making Quran recitation a daily habit โ€” even just 10โ€“15 minutes โ€” is one of the most transformative things a Muslim can do. The benefits are spiritual, psychological, intellectual, and social. Here are ten reasons to make the Quran part of every single day.

๐Ÿ’ก The Prophet ๏ทบ said: "The best among you is the one who learns the Quran and teaches it." (Bukhari)

1. An Immense Reward for Every Single Letter

Reading the Quran is an act of worship that earns rewards (hasanat) from Allah for every letter recited. This is not metaphorical โ€” it is a specific promise from the Prophet ๏ทบ:

"Whoever reads a letter from the Book of Allah will receive a hasanah from it, and the hasanah is multiplied by ten." โ€” At-Tirmidhi

The Prophet ๏ทบ clarified: "I do not say that Alif-Lam-Meem is one letter; rather Alif is a letter, Lam is a letter, and Meem is a letter." The shortest surah โ€” Al-Kawthar โ€” has just 42 letters. That is 420 rewards for a 30-second recitation. Surah Al-Baqarah has 25,500 letters, yielding 255,000 rewards. Daily recitation compounds these rewards to extraordinary levels over a lifetime.

2. The Quran Will Intercede on the Day of Judgement

Perhaps the most awe-inspiring benefit of regular Quran recitation is what will happen at the most critical moment in existence โ€” the Day of Judgement:

ุงู‚ู’ุฑูŽุกููˆุง ุงู„ู’ู‚ูุฑู’ุขู†ูŽ ููŽุฅูู†ูŽู‘ู‡ู ูŠูŽุฃู’ุชููŠ ูŠูŽูˆู’ู…ูŽ ุงู„ู’ู‚ููŠูŽุงู…ูŽุฉู ุดูŽูููŠุนู‹ุง ู„ูุฃูŽุตู’ุญูŽุงุจูู‡ู
"Recite the Quran, for it will come as an intercessor for its companions on the Day of Resurrection." โ€” Muslim

The word "companions" (ashaab) here means those who were devoted to it โ€” who recited it regularly, reflected on its meaning, and lived by its guidance. The Quran will literally stand before Allah and argue on behalf of its regular readers.

3. Inner Peace and Tranquillity

Modern psychology recognises that anxiety and stress are at epidemic levels. Islam offered the solution 1,400 years ago:

ุฃูŽู„ูŽุง ุจูุฐููƒู’ุฑู ุงู„ู„ูŽู‘ู‡ู ุชูŽุทู’ู…ูŽุฆูู†ูู‘ ุงู„ู’ู‚ูู„ููˆุจู
"Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest." โ€” Quran 13:28

Quran recitation is the highest form of dhikr (remembrance of Allah). Readers across centuries have reported that consistent Quran reading reduces anxiety, brings a sense of calm that cannot be found in any worldly pursuit, and creates a feeling of being connected to something greater than oneself.

4. Elevated Status in This Life and the Hereafter

The Prophet ๏ทบ said: "Allah raises some people by this Book and lowers others by it." (Muslim) โ€” meaning those who hold fast to the Quran are elevated in dignity, while those who neglect it are diminished. This elevation is both spiritual (in the sight of Allah) and worldly (in terms of character, wisdom, and leadership).

Furthermore, in the hereafter, the one who memorised and recited the Quran will be honoured: "The one who was devoted to the Quran will be told: 'Recite and ascend; recite as you used to recite in the world, for your rank will be at the last verse you recite.'" (Abu Dawud, At-Tirmidhi)

5. Protection from Shaytan

Specific surahs and verses of the Quran are well-known for their protective power. Ayat al-Kursi (Quran 2:255) is described by the Prophet ๏ทบ as the greatest verse in the Quran, and reciting it before sleep ensures angelic protection throughout the night. Surah Al-Baqarah's regular recitation drives Shaytan from the home.

The Prophet ๏ทบ said: "Do not turn your houses into graves. Indeed, Shaytan flees from the house in which Surah Al-Baqarah is recited." (Muslim)

6. Healing for the Heart and Body

Allah describes the Quran as a healing: "And We send down of the Quran that which is a healing and a mercy to those who believe." (Quran 17:82). Scholars have understood this to mean both spiritual healing (of doubt, hypocrisy, and sin) and physical healing through the practice of ruqyah (Quranic recitation as a form of treatment).

Research published in journals of psychology and medicine has found measurable reductions in cortisol (stress hormone), blood pressure, and anxiety levels in participants who regularly listened to Quran recitation โ€” regardless of whether they understood Arabic.

7. Guidance for Every Situation in Life

The Quran is not merely a religious text โ€” it is a comprehensive guide to every domain of human life: family relations, business ethics, conflict resolution, justice, personal development, and spiritual growth. Allah says: "This is the Book about which there is no doubt, a guidance for those conscious of Allah." (Quran 2:2)

A Muslim who reads the Quran daily will repeatedly encounter verses that speak directly to whatever challenge they are facing โ€” providing wisdom, consolation, and divine direction that no self-help book can offer.

8. Strengthened Memory and Mental Focus

Memorising and reciting the Quran in Arabic โ€” even for non-Arabic speakers โ€” exercises the memory in profound ways. Hafidh (those who have memorised the entire Quran) are universally noted for their exceptional memory, focus, and cognitive ability. Even partial memorisation of Surahs sharpens the mind.

Children who are raised with daily Quran recitation consistently show stronger academic performance, better concentration, and greater linguistic abilities across multiple languages.

9. Community, Belonging, and Shared Purpose

The Quran is a shared experience for all 1.8 billion Muslims worldwide. When you recite the same verses that were recited by the Prophet ๏ทบ, the Sahabah, and hundreds of generations of scholars and believers, you become part of an unbroken chain of human devotion stretching across 14 centuries.

Joining a Quran circle (halaqah) at a mosque, participating in online Quran classes, or simply sharing a verse with family creates bonds of brotherhood and sisterhood that transcend nationality, language, and culture.

10. Becoming the Best of People

๐ŸŒŸ The Prophet Muhammad ๏ทบ said: "The best among you is the one who learns the Quran and teaches it." (Bukhari). This hadith defines excellence โ€” the highest achievement a Muslim can reach is deep engagement with the Quran: learning it, living it, and passing it on.

This is not limited to scholars or imams. A mother who teaches her children Al-Fatiha, a father who reads a page with his family after dinner, a student who helps a friend memorise a surah โ€” all of these people are counted among the best of people according to the Prophet ๏ทบ.

How to Start Reading the Quran Daily

  1. Start small โ€” Begin with just one page or one surah per day. Even five minutes of consistent daily reading is better than an hour once a week.
  2. Choose a fixed time โ€” After Fajr is the most blessed time for Quran recitation. Many scholars recommend making it the first thing you do after prayer.
  3. Use the WeMuslim Pro app โ€” Our built-in Quran reader has full Arabic text, English translation (Asad), and audio recitation so you can read and listen simultaneously.
  4. Read with meaning โ€” Even a few verses understood deeply are more transformative than many pages read without comprehension. Pair your reading with a reliable translation.
  5. Track your progress โ€” Use the bookmark feature in WeMuslim Pro to mark your last-read position and maintain a consistent reading schedule.
  6. Make du'a before reading โ€” Say: "A'udhu billahi min ash-Shaytanir-rajeem. Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Raheem." โ€” Seek Allah's protection and begin in His name.

The Quran has been waiting for you. Open it today โ€” even one verse โ€” and let Allah's words illuminate your heart. As the Prophet ๏ทบ said, a heart without Quran is like a ruined house. Fill your house with light.
